An ongoing series of photos exploring the forager’s specific relationship with nature. Rachel seeks out foragers in rural & urban, sometimes edgy, ex-industrial spaces, whose discoveries ground them in the natural world. Pictured here are “Buck & Birch,” who find unusual, slightly transgressive ingredients for culinary events to surprise and delight, and medicinal herbalists Grassroots Remedies, whose wild findings fuel a clinic for accessible herbal remedies in deprived communities. Rachel’s photos capture the multi-sensory essence of this experience, as well as the precision involved in identifying plants, weeds, roots and their life stages, each season.

Buck and Birch source the foraged ingredients for their wild food dinners in some unexpected places. I joined Tom and Rupert for a walk along the River Esk where we nibbled on Giant Hogweed, Japanese Knotweed, wild Garlic, Sweet Cicely and all sort of spring treats
